With each Manic Panic® color, you can get the DIY look without the damage. That’s color without compromise!
Before coloring your hair, you should perform a patch or strand test with your hair color or bleach to make sure you don’t have any allergic reactions. You can also see if you like the color before coloring your hair all over!
Yes and no. Some of our colors (especially neons, UVs, and pastels) work best on a pre-lightened base. If you want our signature intense color, we recommend lightening your hair to at least a level 7+ blonde. But we also have colors that give gorgeous colorful tints to dark hair. Each product on our website comes with hair swatches so you can see before and after results on light and dark hair.
Your base color is SUPER important since it affects the appearance of tones. If you apply blue pigment on top of a yellow-toned blonde, the results can veer toward a more teal or green hue. The whiter the hair, the truer the color tone. Before you color your hair blue, watch a tutorial by Mykey O’Halloran on how to avoid green tints!
Our semi-permanent formula lasts for about 4-6 weeks. But stronger formulas (like our Amplified collection) last longer because they contain 30% more pigment.
If you want to fight the fade for longer, we have color-safe shampoos and conditioners made specifically to maintain our hair colors. Use cool water when shampooing and try to wash hair only once a week (the more you wash, the faster the color fades). We also have dry shampoo to keep your color fresh on days when you skip a wash.

"I have salt & pepper hair so I was trying this color out. It looked great at first, but the next day I realized it was kinda deep green! Ironically, I was thinking of doing green the next time, so I didn’t mind, but FYI for those attempting gray coverage! My hair is fine with some curl. The picture outside with my hair curly was just after dyeing and the green was before washing it the next day."

"I have naturally dark brown hair that I had been box dying for years and years due to grey hair (I'm in my late 30s). About a year ago I decided to stop box dying and try some semi permanent colours. Bat Outta Hell darkens the previously dyed portion of my hair very well (I assume it is quite porous!) but dyes my greys a true orange colour. I think it looks pretty cool honestly but may not be what other people expect with such a dark colour that rinses out red. It lasts about 3-4 weeks but my roots start showing grey again after one or two washes. Not at all surprising as thats where I focus my shampooing but important to note. Overall I really like this product but I find other brands last a little bit longer at my roots. May try some other colours in the future!!"

"I put it on my pre-lightened light brown hair. I wanted a deeper rich colour and tone as described for this shade and my hair went so dark and black blue in some sections. . WAS NOT AS DESCRIBED…. Bat Outta Hell® is a dark, espresso brown hair dye with warm undertones. add to your current natural light brown hair for added pigment and intensity… I hope it really does fade and wash out in 4 to 6 weeks or else I have to go to the hairdresser for colour correction."

"This is a great choice if you want a (temporary!) change from the more exotic colors. It is a rich brown with a strong red undertone so may not be for you if you want a more cool brown."
