Before coloring your hair, you should perform a patch or strand test with your hair color or bleach to make sure you don’t have any allergic reactions. You can also see if you like the color before coloring your hair all over!
Yes and no. Some of our colors (especially neons, UVs, and pastels) work best on a pre-lightened base. If you want our signature intense color, we recommend lightening your hair to at least a level 7+ blonde. But we also have colors that give gorgeous colorful tints to dark hair. Each product on our website comes with hair swatches so you can see before and after results on light and dark hair.
Your base color is SUPER important since it affects the appearance of tones. If you apply blue pigment on top of a yellow-toned blonde, the results can veer toward a more teal or green hue. The whiter the hair, the truer the color tone. Before you color your hair blue, watch a tutorial by Mykey O’Halloran on how to avoid green tints!
Our semi-permanent formula lasts for about 4-6 weeks. But stronger formulas (like our Amplified collection) last longer because they contain 30% more pigment.
If you want to fight the fade for longer, we have color-safe shampoos and conditioners made specifically to maintain our hair colors. Use cool water when shampooing and try to wash hair only once a week (the more you wash, the faster the color fades). We also have dry shampoo to keep your color fresh on days when you skip a wash.

"It dyes EVERYTHING in my life except my hair. On my hair, which is a medium blonde, it stays for 1-2 weeks if I’m lucky. In my shower, it stays forEVER. Also, it dyes my hands and my forehead and my shoulders no matter how much gloves/protective conditioner I use. I have had better experience with other colours from Manic Panic, but the Pillarbox red… not so much"

"I ordered this dye expecting a red just like it says not only in the name but also in the description. INSTEAD, my entire body from the base of my neck down to my achilles tendon is dyed a bright pink as well as my hands. My hair is barely red and my original color before was a faded red so it should just be a more vibrant red now but NO, it’s PINK. And not only that but i ran out of dye and had to work with what was in my hair already. Terrible experience I will not be buying again."

"I mix this red with infra red and make my own colored conditioner. I try to maintain my burgundy color for as long as possible before re-dying to prevent over doing my hair. Reds are going to BLEED. . . I always rinse with cold water and I pat my hair dry. It has always washed out of my towels no issue and Bleach is my showers best friend."

"I love the hair dye, but i didn't read the color description very well, and so I thought it was a true red but it turned out like a hot red-orange color, which is exactly the color description, which is a good thing the color desription is accuret, I love this brand so much, and I will continue to use this brand."

"I love that is a red kinda pinkish, it holds very well, this thing will be in your bleached hair for years, and since is so pigmented I use it with a bit of conditioner and a bottle lasts for a while (which is pretty good when you are buying out of the US0. I think it should come with a warning about how it can stain everything, but I love this color!"
